Amazing Spider-Man #121, titled "The Night Gwen Stacy Died", is part one of a two-part story arc:
- Spider-Man discovers that the Green Goblin has kidnapped Gwen Stacy
- Spider-Man confronts the Green Goblin on the Brooklyn Bridge

- Spider-Man shoots a web strand at Gwen's legs to catch her, but realizes she is dead when he pulls her up
- Spider-Man blames himself for her death, unsure if her neck was broken by the whiplash from stopping so suddenly or if the Goblin had already broken it before her fall
