The Escape: As the factory fills with toxins, the Turtles assist Casey Jones in bringing the character Abanak to safety.
Reunion: Outside, they meet up with April O'Neil, who has repaired Casey’s car.
Environmental Plot: The story follows the three local fishing boys as they witness the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) arriving to address the polluted, wasted factories.
Passing the Torch: Abanak hands his tools (hammer and chisel) to the boys, asking them to take his place in watching over the river, which they agree to do.
The Pursuit: The Turtles travel towards Northampton, but discover that the villainous Bloodsucker is following them in another vehicle.
Splinter's Vision: In a parallel narrative, Splinter continues to meditate, following a spiritual vision of the river to its source in northern Vermont, where he encounters a mysterious, aged figure.
